Measles activity in the United States is generally low – from 50-200 cases per year over the past 6 years – though larger outbreaks are possible. In 2014, over 660 measles cases were reported, largely in unvaccinated communities. Vaccination with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine is important to protecting against infection.
